Ireland before the Famine
In the 18th century Ireland was made up of small farms that were rented out by rich landlords to poor Irish peasants. Many Irish people lived off potatoes as they would grow on very poor soil and yield a large amounts. However when this potato crop failed, it lead to a severe shortage of food and thus resulted in what is now known as The Great Irish Famine.
